Head RIP Control 16/17 Head RIP Control is quite a unique multifilament - it is actually a composite string, combining copolymer (nylon) fibers and polyolefin ribbons. Apart from its striking, attractive appearance (always a plus out on the courts!), this string plays very very well considering its relatively low price for a multi - good arm comfort, nice ball pocketing, decent power level, and good durability for a multifilament. Your choice of 16 or 17 gauge. |
Strung Price: $20 Other shops: $30 & up +tax |

Wilson Sensation 16/17 Great value in a multifilament! An arm-friendly, comfortable playing string with a nice blend of feel & playability. Wilson Sensation is known for its vibration dampening qualities. Your choice of 16 or 17 gauge. |
Strung Price: $23 Other shops: $28 & up +tax |

Head FXP Power 16/17 Head's premium multifilament, FXP Power provides a soft feeling yet responsive hit. However, for hard hitters with heavy top spin (especially western and extreme western grips), you will likely find the DuPont coating on the strings (added for increased durability) will not hold up well with week after week of heavy hitting. If you want a high level of durability, this string is likely not for you. But for those who place a premium on comfort, feel and touch, and don't mind restringing a little more often, FXP Power would be right up your alley. Your choice of 16 or 17 gauge. |

Babolat Addiction 16/17 Babolat Addiction is a multi string well suited to those who like the feel of a multifilament but don't want to pay the relatively high price for strings such as Wilson NXT or Technifibre X-1. Addiction offers a good blend of power, control and comfort, and reasonably good durability for a multifilament. As with all multis, do not expect these strings to last foreever, especially if you are a hard hitter with lots of top spin. That said, during play testing I have found Addiction to last longer than average for a multi and to retain tension and playability very well over time. Your choice of 16 or 17 gauge. |
Strung Price: $25 Other shops: $30 & up +tax |

Wilson NXT 16/17 A very popular string among serious tennis players everywhere, Wilson NXT combines Dupont Xycro Micro fibers with polyurethane resin and coating for optimal feel, comfort and playability. Plays with a moderately soft feel, making it a good choice for tennis elbow sufferers. For added playability and slightly more power (trading off some durability), choose the thinner 17 gauge option. Your choice of 16 or 17 gauge. |
Strung Price: $32 Other shops: $35 & up +tax |

Technifibre X-One Biphase 16/17 THE premium top-of-the-line multi, considered by many to be the best synthetic gut on the market today with playing characteristics as close to natural gut as possible in a synthetic string. Plays with a nice crisp feel and good power. This string will be appreciated by the discerning 4.0+ player who enjoys an all court game that demands an optimum mix of feel, power and control. Your choice of 16 or 17 gauge. |

MSV Focus Hex 17L MSV is a Germany based string company and continues in the tradition of other top-notch German string manufacturers like Kirschbaum, Signum Pro, and Weiss CANNON, with Focus Hex - an amazing string that features a hexagonal profile for added spin and ball bite. Be warned! If you hit with heavy top spin with these black beauties, you will literally see the fuzz being ripped off the balls! Yes, it really does have that much bite! As a third generation co-poly, Focus Hex also offers very good tension maintenance, and a good comfort level for a poly-based string, even when used in the full stringbed. Gauge: 17L |
Strung Price: $22 Other shops: not available |

Babolat Pro Hurricane 16/17 A popular choice among touring professionals, Pro Hurricane is a softer polyester based string using Babolat's Xtrem Futur Polymer construction material. For added spin potential, choose the thinner 17 gauge but be prepared for some trade off in terms of durability over the 16 gauge. Your choice of 16 or 17 gauge. |

Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour 16/17 The string of choice of top pros Rafael Nadal (his version is called Duralast) and Andy Roddick (used in a hybrid), Pro Hurricane Tour offers a firm, crisp feel, and has an octagonal profile designed to produce increased ball bite for extra spin potential. The string has exceptional durability and makes a great choice for big hitters who like to swing for the fences! Your choice of 16 or 17 gauge. |

Weiss CANNON Silver String 17L You won't find Weiss CANNON strings at the local pro shops and that's a real shame, because this flagship string from Germany-based Weiss CANNON is a dream come true for those seeking a poly with extreme spin, power, control, feel, tension maintenance and comfort - this string practically has it all! As a third generation co-poly, you can also use these in the full stringbed without any of the harsh feel that polys usually incur. Gauge: 17L |

Kirschbaum Pro Line II 17/17L/18L Available for the first time in Canada, see what all the fuss is about over these cherry red co-poly strings from German string maker Kirschbaum. This is really the latest technology in poly strings (so-called third generation polys) offering superior ball pocketing, tension maintenance, and better durability than most other polyesters. This is a poly string that is surpringsingly easy on the arm, and players who desire to use poly in the full stringbed but find other popular polys such as Luxilon BB or Babolat PHT too harsh, may want to give this co-poly a try instead. Your choice of 17, 17L or 18L gauge. |
Strung Price: $28 Other shops: not available |

Technifibre Black Code 17/18 BlackCode is a third generation polyester string (i.e. a co-poly string) and has a hex shaped profile to provide some added "bite" on the ball increasing spin potential. During playtesting, I have found this string to hold tension very well (for a poly string) and to provide a relatively comfortable feel (again, relative to what one usually expects from polys which are generally stiff strings overall). Your choice of 17 or 18 gauge. |
Strung Price: $28 Other shops: $35 & up +tax |

Signum Pro Plasma HEXtreme 16L (Orange) Plasma HEXtreme is one of the latest in string technologies from German company Signum Pro. This is a co-poly with a hex profile, similar to Technifibre Black Code, that provides some extra ball bite. This string is the next generation up from the original Poly Plasma by Signum Pro, and I have found during playtesting that it does offer very good control, minimal tension loss over its life cycle, and a relatively comfortable feel. Gauge: 16L |

Luxilon Big Banger ALU Power 16L Luxilon Polys are probably among the most popular strings on the ATP Tour. For players with a big hitting heavy top spin baseline game, ALU Power, as its name suggests, provides good power for a Poly string, durability and control. Many touring pros will however hybrid this string in the mains with a natural gut in the crosses to soften the string bed and provide some added feel. However, due to its stiff, harsh playing nature, I would not recommend these strings for the casual recreational player or older players suffering from tennis elbow, wrist or shoulder problems. Gauge: 16L |
Strung Price: $35 Other shops: $40 & up +tax |

Luxilon Big Banger ALU Power Rough 16L ALU Power Rough is a textured version of ALU Power designed to "grip" the ball for added spin potential. Used by Pros such as Federer and Djokovic in a hybrid configuration (with natural gut), this string will be appreciated by players with extreme western grips and heavy top spin games. Like its counterpart ALU Power, this string does play relatively harsh when used in the entire string bed and is not recommended for those with arm or shoulder problems, unless possibly combined in a hybrid with a more forgiving multi or natural gut. Gauge: 16L |

Kevlar (Aramids) |

Ashaway Crossfire 16/17 Crossfire is a popular and well known hybrid combination set that has been around for years and features Kevlar strings (meant for mains) with synthetic gut (meant for crosses). The Kevlar mains come in either 16 or 17 gauge (your choice) and like all Kevlars, are reknown for extreme durability and resistance to notching. The synthetic gut cross strings come in 16 gauge and are used to soften the overall stringbed and provide additional control. Frequent string breakers, especially those who love to hit with very heavy topspin will appreciate this string. However, I would advise those with elbow problems to consider a softer alternative such as one of the newer third generation co-polys rather than Kevlar which while very very durable, is also the most stiff of all tennis strings available today. Your choice of 16 or 17 gauge. |

Babolat VS Touch Natural Gut 15L/16 Babolat VS is the benchmark against which all other natural gut strings are compared. For optimum playability, choose the 16 gauge, while for added durability opt for the 15L gauge. If you are suffering from serious tennis elbow but still want to enjoy some tennis, natural gut may be your best option. And for serious tennis lovers, if you have never tried natural gut before, you owe it to yourself to try it at least once in your life to understand what all the fuss is about and the true joy that is possible in hitting a tennis ball! Your choice of 15L or 16 gauge. |

Babolat Tonic+ Natural Gut 15L Tonic+ is Babolat's more economically priced natural gut range, providing much the same the renowned playability and comfort of VS natural gut but at a lower price. The difference is slightly less consistency in gauging as compared to VS, but in practice, most players are unlikely to notice these differences. Gauge: 15L |

Poly + Syn Gut
For hard hitting frequent string breakers, a Poly + Syn Gut hybrid offers a good compromise between feel, control and durability. Place Babolat Pro Hurricane Poly in the mains for its durability and spin potential, and an economically priced yet solid performing syn gut like Gosen OG Sheep Micro in the crosses to provide a little more feel and a slightly softer playing string bed. |

Poly + Multifilament The next step up from a Poly + Syn Gut hybrid would be a Poly + Multifilament hybrid. High quality multifilaments, while providing excellent feel and power, are often not durable enough for budget conscious big hitting players who break strings frequently. On the other hand, a full poly set up can be too harsh for many playersm, especially those prone to wrist, arm or shoulder problems. A Poly + Multi hybrid like Babolat Pro Hurricane in the mains with Wilson NXT in the crosses provides a happy medium - the durability and spin potential of poly with the feel and forgiveness of a quality multi. |
Strung Price: $32 Other shops: $40 & up +tax |
Design your own! With hybrids, there are many more options than could be listed here, including Poly + Natural Gut, Natural Gut + Syn Gut, Natural Gut + Multi, and Kevlar (Aramids) + Syn Gut. Some players also prefer to place the softer string in the mains and the tougher string in the crosses (e.g. the Roger Federer set up of natural gut in the mains and Luxilon poly in the crosses). Although this usually provides a less durable set up than Poly mains and Gut crosses, it provides more feel and power as the mains tend to dictate the overall playing characteristics of the string bed more so than the crosses. I would love to work with you to come up with your ideal hybrid set up. If you have never used hybrids before, it could take a number of jobs experimenting with different combinations to arrive at what you like best.
